 School District Policies

All SD8 Kootenay Lake School District Board Policies and Administrative Guidelines are available on the district website: https://www.sd8.bc.ca/board/policies

New Policies and Policy Revisions
To propose a new policy or policy revision, please complete and submit a Policy Pro Forma.Current draft policies are available here. See Policy 160: Policy Development for more details.

Policies are statements of intent and are based upon the mission statements, mandate and core values of the SD8 Board of Education.

Policies direct and guide school district operations. They are broad enough to allow discretionary action, yet clear enough to provide clear direction to district staff.

The regulations that accompany each policy are the administrative procedures or rules of conduct that allow for the fulfillment of the policy statement.

Policy Development

Everyone is welcome to submit proposals for new policies or revisions to existing policies and regulations.

Submit requests to the Board of Education using a "Policy Pro-forma". Find this form and everything you need to know about policy creation and revision here.
Policies are drafted by the multi-stakeholder Policy Committee and are "field tested" before being finalized based on feedback received during field testing. The policy committee recommends final draft policies to the Board of Education for adoption.

The Policy Committee meets every four weeks. Parents have two seats on this committee. Contact us if you would like to serve on this committee.

Regulations

Regulations or procedures are now drafted by the Superintendent and brought to the multi-stakeholder Policy & Governance Committee for review and comment before going to the Board of Education for discussion and final approval.
