What is a District Parents' Advisory Council (DPAC)?

The Kootenay Lake District Parents’ Advisory Council (Kootenay Lake DPAC) is the recognized representative for the collective voice of parents in our school district. The Kootenay Lake DPAC is comprised of elected parent representatives from our 24 school Parents’ Advisory Councils (PACs), advocating for almost 5000 students, in communities such as the Slocan Valley, Lardeau Valley, Creston Valley and centres like the City of Nelson, Town of Creston, Kaslo and Salmo. The Kootenay Lake DPAC serves as an umbrella organization for the PACs in the Kootenay Lake School District No. 8.

The Kootenay Lake DPAC's purpose is to support, encourage, and improve all schools and school programs in the Kootenay Lake School District and to ensure that public education serves the best interests of all students.

We are proud to support PACs and parents in accessing the school system at all levels. We provide a regular forum for the exchange of ideas and information among our PACs.

As the recognized education partner for parents in our district, the Kootenay Lake DPAC consults with the school district administration and board on current educational issues and proposed changes in our school district. The Kootenay Lake DPAC maintains an ongoing liaison with our 24 PACs, BCCPAC, School Board, Senior Staff, and education partners, Teachers, Principals, Support Staff, and the Ministry of Education.

Parent Voice can make a difference! You are encouraged to get involved and join us to work together with our District and education partners to provide our children with the best education possible.

The Kootenay Lake DPAC is a proud member of the British Columbia Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (BCCPAC).
